I Lied... One More Batch of History.

I just keep finding images and photos in the stack of documents we got with the Greenbrier.
It's clear that Ken and June [original owners] loved adventure, and documenting along the way. Here are some large format prints I found while going through the box this week.
I'd love to hear any knowledge or guesses of where these were taken if you recognize the scenery.

  1. The chain link fence is on a Washington State Ferry. Perhaps the point on the route to Bainbridge island?

The beach pic is almost certainly the wreck of the Peter Iredale, off the coast of Astoria.

  2. Congratulations on buying the Corvair. She's a beauty and your thorough documentation of your journey will certainly be looked upon by a future owner just as look upon the original owners'. The thread continues. Take good care of her :)

  3. Congratulations on a great adventure and the spirit to pull it off.

The first photograph is of Crown Point in Corbett, Oregon which is in the majestic Columbia River Gorge just off I-84 a few miles east of Portland. The second photograph appears to be just a bit further into the Gorge at Cascade Locks with the iconic Bridge of the Gods in the background. The fifth photograph is, indeed, the ill-fated Peter Iredale. The sixth photograph looks very much like the high-desert landscape of eastern Oregon.

What a way to start the New Year.

    Best regards from Portlandia,

  4. Number one looks like it is a building (Vista House) along the Columbia River Gorge east of Portland, Oregon.

My wife, daughter and I took a trip up the west coast from LA to Seattle in the summer of 2007.

My Dad had a new 1961 Ford Econoline ( I was six) that he had a cabinet maker set up so it could sleep 5. My Dad, Mom and the three brothers traveled summers from Michigan out to the west before the Interstates were finished. Many times we took Route 66 through to the west. We visited national parks and tourists traps along the way as we made our way to visit relatives in California.

  5. I agree with Matt on the pics. Columbia Gorge Visitors center, (Vista House). That does look like Bridge of the Gods. And that's what you think your going to meet as you drive over it. Very nervous experience! The Peter Iredale in this pic looks just like when I saw it as a boy. I think the #6 pic is south east central Oregon near the Steens.(check the fault upthrust blocks. Very Steens like) It doesn't look like anywhere near Bend. Further east.

  6. Great premise for a blog, and off to a strong start. In the post below, the image of the ferry pulling into the dock looks like the landing at Orcas Island, which is a 30-minute ride from Friday Harbor on San Juan Island.

  7. picture 5 is the wreckage of the Peter Iredale in Astoria Oregon. Congrats on the Green Briar. Buddy of mine has a rampside Green Briar.

  8. Whatever happened to this site? Nothing since Jan 7th? (It's now May 15) I was so looking forward reading about Jason and Meagan's adventures in the Greenbrier. I hope nothing bad has happened. Does anyone know?
